Our Approach

  • A comprehensive history is more than a checklist of past illnesses or surgeries. It is the full story of your health that is woven from medical records, provider notes, test results, and the lived experiences that never make it into a chart.

At Storyline, we gather and organize this history across all the places you’ve received care. That means not just diagnoses and medications, but also:

    • Key life events that have shaped your health

    • Social factors like caregiving responsibilities, housing, or stressors

    • Questions that remain unanswered or concerns that were never fully explained

    • Insurance and benefit details that impact what care is accessible

This broader, narrative view allows us to see patterns, clarify gaps, and prepare you for more productive conversations with your care team. A comprehensive history becomes the foundation for coordinated, patient-centered care, because when the whole story is known, better decisions can be made.

  • Once your health portfolio is assembled, our work is just beginning. We will sit down with you—not to overwhelm you with jargon, but to walk through each section line by line. Together, we’ll make sure you understand what every term, number, and note means, and we’ll flag anything that looks inaccurate or incomplete.

This isn’t about memorizing medical language. It’s about equipping you to see your own health story clearly. By translating complex records into plain language, we help you recognize patterns, spot potential errors, and ask sharper questions at your next appointment.

Most importantly, we connect the dots between what’s in your chart and what it means for your life. Because education isn’t just information. It’s empowerment for the next step in your health journey.

  • Once the groundwork is laid (your comprehensive history assembled and your understanding strengthened), we shift to building confidence. This is where knowledge becomes empowerment.

We help you step into the role of a savvy healthcare consumer:

    • Knowing how to frame your questions so your provider can give you clearer answers.

    • Understanding when and how to advocate for yourself in the exam room.

    • Learning how to “stack” your resources—whether that’s specialists, community programs, or benefits—so they work together instead of against each other.

    • Identifying what can be covered by insurance or benefits, so you don’t carry costs you don’t need to.

Our goal is not just to help you navigate one appointment, but to equip you with skills and confidence you can use for every step of your health journey.

Because when you walk into the clinic informed, prepared, and empowered, you don’t just receive care. You take ownership of it.

  • Lauren Shurson DNP, FNP-BC

    FOUNDER

I’ve spent more than 15 years in healthcare—as a nurse practitioner, educator, leader, & advisor. My career has taken me across hospitals, primary care, specialty practices, health insurance, and academia. In every setting, I saw the same pattern: patients left carrying the burden of a fragmented system, often with more confusion than clarity. That experience shaped Storyline. I founded it to give patients and families what the system too often cannot: time, clarity, & a steady guide through the maze of healthcare.
